WagnisART is exceptional for its consultation processes within housing projects that consider architecture and landscape as one. The commitment to the community was already forged during the consultation process that began with wasteland and included open space as an immanent part of the overall project. The planners managed the consultation process by several stages in which first ideas and aspirations were formulated, the landscape was designed, and all its functional and design aspects were in fact interpreted into the actual space through joint actions. The mutual trust and respect shown in the cooperation between the design team and users has led to new open space typologies that abandon the familiar images of residential landscapes and open up new opportunities for the appropriation of open space and place making. The planting layout agreed about with the members of the “Baugruppe” represent a global mix of trees, shrubs and perennials, which mirror the real desire of the inhabitants to travel through the continents. They became a vital comment to the relativity of what is foreign, local, appropriate or just a well planted neighborhood.
